Gladys I. (Hilkemann) Spreeman

NORFOLK — Services for Gladys I. Spreeman, 93, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk. The Revs. Ray Wilke and Christopher Asbury will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Home for Funerals.

Memorials may be directed to the Orphan Grain Train or the Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund.


Gladys was born April 4, 1923, in Wayne County, the daughter of Herman and Augusta (Koll) Hilkemann and went to be the Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Her childhood was spent on a farm in Pierce County near Hadar.
Gladys married Alvin Spreeman on Dec. 30, 1942. They began their life’s journey together by farming in Stanton, Wayne and Madison counties. Together, they were caretakers of their blessings of land, animals, their family and many friends. They were residents of the Madison House in Norfolk, beginning in 2012. Their life’s journey together ended when Alvin died on April 5, 2015.
Gladys is survived by a daughter, Gynell Poessnecker and her spouse Paul of Atkinson; a son, Glenn Spreeman and his spouse Sandy of Norfolk; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
