Leonard O'Neill

Leonard O'Neill, 101, of Jackson passed away Monday, March 14, 2016, in Omaha.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Jackson. The Rev. Paul Albenesius and the Rev. Dick Whiting will co-celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Jackson. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Leonard was born on July 23, 1914, in Goodwin, NE, the son of Thomas and Mayme (Carpenter) O'Neill. He was raised on a farm near Willis, NE. Leonard attended country school and graduated from St. Catherine Academy in Jackson.
On June 6, 1940, he married Mary Gormally in Jackson. He farmed in the Jackson area most of his life until he moved to Omaha six years ago to be near his family. Mary died on January 1, 2005.
Leonard was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Jackson and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling and was most proud of being a member of the Jackson community. He loved growing up there and raising his family there. He was a big supporter of Catholic education.
He is survived by his three children, Leonard (Cathie) O'Neill of Kalamazoo, MI, Cathie (John) Fullenkamp of Omaha, and Betty (Doug) Walsh of Omaha; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Peg O'Neill and Arlene O'Neill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; and his sister and brothers, Millie, Frank, Don, Vern and Jack.
Memorials may be given in his name to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Jackson.
