Voyl "Barney" Geiger, 88, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Regency Square Center in South Sioux City, NE. Services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Allen with Pastor Sara Simmons.
Burial was in Eastview Cemetery with the American Legion Floyd Gleason Post #131 presenting military rites. Visitation was Monday 3-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Thompson Chapel in Wakefield.
Voyl "Barney" Geiger was born February 10, 1920 at Allen, NE to his parents, Charles and Kate (Lenox) Geiger. He attended school in Allen. "Barney" served in the Army in the European Theater during WWII.
Voyl married Phyllis Dyson August 18, 1946 at the Allen Methodist Church.
The couple farmed southeast of Allen. After retiring from farming, "Barney" was an escort driver for Heritage Homes of Wayne for a number of years. Phyllis died in July, 1998.
"Barney" was a member of the Floyd Gleason Post #131 of Allen. He was also a member of the NRA and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Cobb, a son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Linda Geiger all of Sioux City, IA, and a son, Charles Geiger of Wayne, NE. Also seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and one sister, Lynda Holmes Harper of Haunton, LA.
He was preceded in death by parents, his wife Phyllis, and one sister, Fern Westedt.
Pallbearers: Marlin Kraemer, Dough Kraemer, Harold Isom, Brian Cobb, Mark Cobb, Kevin Cobb.
Soloist: Chris Isom. Organist: Ken Johnson. Chris Isom sings: "The Old Rugged Cross" "What A Friend we Have in Jesus".
Congregation sings: "Because He Lives".
