Ernest James Geiger

E. James Geiger, 77, of Allen died Friday, December 21, 2001, at Pender Community Hospital in Pender, NE, from a stroke, after suffering from myasthenia gravis for many years.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Allen, with the Rev. Sarah Lutter officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 2 to 4 p.m. at Bressler-Munderloh Funeral Home in Wakefield.
Mr. Geiger was born February 4, 1924, in rural Waterbury, NE, the son of Ernest and Faye (Cleveland) Geiger. He was baptized at and was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Allen. He attended Oakdale District 17 school near Waterbury for 10 years before graduating from Allen High School in 1941. He lived on a farm near the school for all but seven years of his life. He retired from farming in 1990.
He married Iola Wolter of Dixon on September 16, 1944, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Concord, NE. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army corps of Engineers from February 19, 1945, to May 13, 1946. He served eight months in the Philippines. He was a member of American Legion Floyd Gleason Post 131 of Allen.
He served on the Oakdale School Board of Education for many years. He also served on the church council. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years, and enjoyed traveling with his family. He was a pioneer in the use of large farm machinery in the hilly area of northeast Nebraska. He was one of the first farmers in the area to utilize modern farm technology in agriculture.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Larry of Allen, Lyle and his wife, Patricia of South Pasadena, CA, David and his wife, Iva of Allen, and Dennis and his wife, Karen of Pittsford, NY; a daughter and her husband, Diane and Craig Schultz of Humble, TX; eight grandchildren, Marty Schultz, Brian Schultz, Jeff Geiger and his wife, Bretta, Carrie Geiger, Tom Geiger, Krystina Geiger, Bryan Geiger and Mysti Geiger; and two sisters, Carol and her husband, Gaylen Jackson of Allen, and Dorothy Andrews of White Bear Lake, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darryl; and a sister, LaVerna White.
Pallbearers will be Jim Stapleton, Dale Jackson, Calvin Wolter, Marlin Bose, Randy Nissen and Rick Goodwin.
