Virginia Vivian (Osbahr) Speulda

Virginia Vivian Speulda, 96, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of South Sioux City passed away on December 8,2011 at a care center in Grand Forks, ND.
Services were Thursday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Carol Jean Stapleton officiating. Burial was in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation was 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Virginia was born November 21, 1915 in rural Dixon, NE the daughter of Herman and Irene (Potter) Osbahr. After finishing her education and moving from the farm, she lived and worked in Sioux City, IA. Virginia married Donald D. Speulda on June 1, 1940. She and Don lived all of their married life in the Sioux City area. Virginia was a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, canning and decorating her home. She was an active member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and the South Sioux City Senior Citizens Center. She and her husband often traveled to the western states and enjoyed visiting relatives and participating in local activities.
Virginia was eager to provide a helping hand to those around her. While she was residing at the independent/assistive living home in East Grand Forks, she regularly volunteered to help in the dining room. Earlier in her life she was willing and able to help family members when needs arose.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Donald and Kathryn Speulda of Grand Forks, ND; a brother and his wife, James and Lois Osbahr of South Sioux City; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald who passed away on February 12, 1998 in Sioux City; two sisters: Carol Schroeder and Shirley Salvang and a brother: Myron Osbahr.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations in her honor to be sent to Red River Hospice at 3001 32nd Street Avenue South in Grand Forks, ND 58203.
Pallbearers were Charles, Jim and Martin Osbahr, Jim, Anthony and D. J. Kennelly and Jerry Schroeder.
