Helen Maxine (Hogan) Kavanaugh

Helen Maxine (Hogan) Kavanaugh, 87, of South Sioux City died peacefully Saturday, August 15, 2015, in the comfort of her home.
Per her wishes, the body has been cremated. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in South Creek Cemetery, Ponca, NE, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. A reception will follow at Jackson Legion Hall in Jackson, NE. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Helen was born on June 16, 1928, in Waterbury, NE, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Gill) Hogan. She grew up in Waterbury, graduating from Waterbury High School. She later retired from the Northern Bell Telephone Company, where she worked as an operator.
Helen married Bernard W. Kavanaugh on August 16, 1947, in Sioux City. The two resided in South Sioux City, where they had two sons and a daughter.
Helen enjoyed being outdoors working in her yard, fishing, and attending the sporting events of her children and later, her grandchildren. She adored spending time with family and friends, as well as the company of her beloved dog, Herbie.
Survivors include her son, Michael and wife, Renee Kavanaugh of South Sioux City; a daughter, Linda and her husband, Ray Fowler of Sioux City; two granddaughters, Emily and her husband, Justin Calvert of Lincoln, NE, and Kacie Jo Kavanaugh of Oklahoma; and a sister, Marge Rooney of Hubbard, NE.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers and sisters; her husband, Bernie; and her son, Patrick.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Helen's name to Siouxland Hospice.
