| Margaret Kathleen "Kay" O'Gara McKivergan, 96, of rural Ponca passed away Monday, August 3, 2015, in Jackson, NE. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, where Kay had been a parishioner since early 1945. Burial will be in Calvary at South Creek Cemetery, rural Ponca. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Kay was born in Smithwick, SD, on January 25, 1919, the daughter of Michael Gilbert and Mary Z. O'Gara. She was the fourth child in a family of nine children. In late 1933, Kay moved with her family to Jackson, NE, where she attended and, in 1938, graduated from St. Catherine's Academy. On October 8, 1940, Kay married Frank McKivergan, whom she had known since she was 16 years old. Kay and Frank farmed first in the Goodwin/Willis, NE area, then nearer Ponca. Then in 1945, on the farm west of Ponca where they lived out the rest of their lives. Frank passed away on March 20, 2000. In retirement, Kay participated in the church activities of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, usually attending daily Mass. For several years, she taught faith-based studies to the grade-school-age youth of the parish and was a volunteer through hospice. She was kind-hearted, filled with faith and a friend to anyone she met, always with a smile on her face. Kay will be missed by us all. Survivors include Kay's children, James and his wife, Glenna of Columbia, SC, Timothy and his wife, Gwen of New Braunfels, TX, Diana Rittscher and her husband, Keith of Palm Bay, FL, and Lois and her husband, Gary Wilson of Dakota City; grandchildren include Lois' daughter, Charity Krogh, Diana's son, Keith and her daughters, Kristin Dreeszen and Kimberly Nodier, Tim's daughter, Teresa Mirarchi and his son, Scott, and Jim's daughters, Tawnee Keelor and Bridget Heneghan and his son, Michael; 19 great-grandchildren; her younger brother, Tom, of Marble Falls, TX; sisters-in-law, Annelise O'Gara and Irma O'Gara; brother-in-law, Wesley "Lee" Keller; sister-in-law, Charlene McKivergan; and a great many more nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Mary O'Gara; her husband, Frank McKivergan; brothers, Gilbert "Bill" O'Gara and his wife, Rosemary (Minton) O'Gara, Michael "Rod" O'Gara, and Francis "Bart" O'Gara; and sisters, Helen Mackey and her husband, Edward Mackey, Mary Eda Marcault and her husband, Eugene Marcault, Dorothy Cummings and her husband, George Cummings and Genevieve "Johnnie" Keller; her brother-in-law, Joseph McKivergan; and her sister-in-law, Margaret Bousquet and husband, Roland Bousquet.
