| Amanda A. Kneifl, 101 of Sioux City, formerly of Newcastle, NE, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home comforted by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle, NE with Father Andrew Sohm as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Newcastle. Visitation, with the family present, will be today, Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the St. Peter's Parish Center beginning at 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a Scriptural Wake Service beginning this evening at 6 p.m. and continue on Monday morning in the parish hall at 9 a.m. before the Mass begins. In lieu of flowers, family request memorials be offered to St. Peter's Church or to the charity of the donor's choice. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Amanda was born on October 9, 1913 in Wynot, NE to Frederick "Fritz" and Mary (Sherman) Schroder. She married Lawrence H. Kneifl on May 21, 1940 at St. James, Nebraska Catholic Church. To this union, three children were born: infant son Charles died shortly after birth on December 8, 1942, and two daughters Alice and Phyllis. Lawrence died on March 3, 1988. He was a farmer until retiring. Amanda lived most of her life in Newcastle on a farm. She held offices in Sacred Heart Sodality, taught CCD classes for 19 years, was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and served in the Rural Northeast Nebraska Deanery Council of Catholic Women. Amanda was named Woman of the Year by the Deanery in 1998, and enjoyed the East Side Ladies Club. Amanda will be remembered by her granddaughters for the dress-up tea parties on the front porch and by her grandsons for her awesome whiffle ball pitching ability. She was an inspiration to her daughters and to many by her deep faith and caring love. Survivors include two daughters Phyllis (Arnie) Getz of Pewaukee, WI, and Alice (Ron) Cardwell of Sioux City, IA; seven grandchildren Kevin (Missy) Cardwell, Duane (Melissa) Cardwell, Kari (Shelby) Johnson, Lari (Chad) Tanner, Alan (Ashley) Getz, Amy (Jeffrey) Niedziela, and Ann (Andy) Steth; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Amanda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, 3 brothers Ignatius, Raymond, and Leonard, and two sisters Dorothy and Cresentia. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Holy Spirit Retirement Home staff and Hospice of Siouxland for their loving comfort and care. |
