Joseph William Overman

Joseph W. Overman passed away at his home in Winside on Tuesday June 5, aged 64 years, 6 months, and 10 days. Funeral services were conducted at the home this morning by Rev. E. N. Littrell, pastor of the M. E. church. The body was brought to Wayne for burial in Greenwood cemetery.
Mr. Overman was born in Linn County, Mo., Nov 25, 1858. He moved with his father's famliy to Iowa at the age of 12 years. Soon after his marriage to Lillie Cook, in the early eighties, he moved to Wayne County. To Mr. and Mrs. Overman were born three children as follows: LeRoy Overman and Mrs. Fred Shank of Whitelake, S. D., and Mrs. Edmund Sackett of Plankinton, S. D. In February, 1896, his wife died, and her body was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Wayne. On August 10, 1897, he was married to Julia Williamson, and to the union six children were born, one passing away in infancy. The five surviving with the mother, are: John Overman of Dakota City, and Etta, Nina, Alta, and Ida Overman, at home.
Mr. Overman farmed for a number of years and then moved to Winside where he engaged in the harness business. He was a member of the Modern Brotherhood of America. He was a good citizen, and many friends very much regretted to hear of his death.
