Bernardine (Hartnett) Sullivan

Bernadine G. "Bun" Sullivan, 97, of Jackson died on Friday, May 16, 2014, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will be in South Creek Cemetery, Ponca, NE. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangement are with Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Bun was born February 23, 1917, on the family farm near Jackson, the daughter of William and Margaret (Hogan) Hartnett. She was raised in the Jackson area and graduated from St. Catherine's Academy in 1934.
On May 30, 1938. she married Maxwell P. "Jake" Sullivan at St. Patrick's Church in Jackson. The couple made their home in Jackson, where they raised their family.
She was a stay-at-home mom, which was the job she loved.
Bun was a lifetime member of St. Patrick Church and active with parish altar society for many years. She was a spiritual leader and a prayer giant for her family and friends. She loved playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards. She was the local historian.
Bun was known for her quick wit and a great sense of humor. Family was most important to her. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She lived life to the fullest to the very end.
Survivors include those who dearly loved and will greatly miss her, her daughters and sons, Marcia (Jerry) Wisnieski of Nevada, IA, Bill (Rita) Sullivan of Jackson, Mary Kay (Bill) Barkley of Sioux City, Mon (Dan) O'Neill of Sioux Falls, SD, Patricia (Doug) Conklin of Rock Mount, VA, Patrick (Celeste) Sullivan of Springview, NE, and Jim (Mary) Sullivan of Jackson; daughter-in-law, Diane Sullivan of Jackson; 32 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine Dineen of Redondo Beach, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake, on October 4, 1980; her parents; an infant daughter, Mary Theresa; a son, Jerry Sullivan; a grandson, Phillip Barkley; three sisters; and six brothers.
In lieu of flowers a memorial may be directed to the family for a memorial in Bun's name.
