Twila (Tuttle) Gustavson

Twila Faye Gustavson, 87, of Sioux City passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, March 29, 2014, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City. The Rev. Alan Wicks will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service a 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Twila was born on September 27, 1926, in Newcastle, NE, the daughter of Ward and Marguerite (McCuen) Tuttle. She was baptized in Newcastle and later confirmed as an adult at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1946.
She met Ray Gustavson at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. They both enjoyed dancing, especially to the big band music. On July 9, 1955, she was united in marriage to Ray. The couple made their home in Sioux City. She was a devoted mother, raising her five children and was the neighborhood mom for the neighbor kids as well.
Twila's first job was at Molskow Pharmacy in Morningside. Years later, after her youngest, Brian entered school, Twila went to work for Beeline Fashions, hosting fashion parties in ladies' homes and was recognized many times for her sales achievements. She even got to sing with Jerry Lewis on one of her trips she won to Chicago in 1972. She also worked at Bostwick's Department Store in the Sunset Plaza, sold Mary Kay Cosmetics, Tupperware and Park Lane Jewelry.
Twila was a member of First Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the Post Office Auxiliary and had served as president. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting, bowling, traveling, photography, golfing and her birthday club. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family.
In 1993 and 1995, Twila was reunited with two sons she had given up for adoption at birth. Her family welcomed them with open arms. Her husband, Ray died on July 17, 2004, and her daughter, Linda, died suddenly in her sleep of a pulmonary embolism on July 29, 2007.
Twila loved to watch television. Her favorites were the Lawrence Welk Show, Shirley Temple movies, Rock Hudson and Doris Day movies, and Dancing With the Stars.
Twila is survived by her six children and their spouses, Bill (Cathy) Bowman of Aurora, CO, Phil (Sarah) McLaughlin of Paola, KS, Karen (Cal) Corson of Waverly, IA, Kay (Dan) Pecaut of Sioux City, Mark Gustavson of Sioux City, and Brian (Nancy) Gustavson of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren, Ryan, Jamie and Brandon Kent, Philip Corson, Jennifer (Chris) Gidley, John (Laura) Pecaut, Charlie and Danielle Pecaut, Devin Wobschall, Keesha Beauchene (Terry Cherkas, Christopher (Whitney) Beals, Alex and Josee Gustavosn, Halen, Michael and Annamarie Gustavson; six great-grandchildren, Elijiah Altimus, Nicholas, Jersie and Colton Cherkas, Damien and Bryce Kent; and her sisters-in-law, Betty Tuttle of Norfolk, NE, Joyce Tuttle of Sioux City, and Joan Gustavson of Sioux City.
Twila was preceded in death by her parents, Ward and Marguerite Tuttle; her husband, Ray; her daughter, Linda Wobschall; her parents-in-law, Fritz and Anna Gustavson; her brothers, Arvil and Cecil Tuttle; her sister, Birdie Gesland; her sister-in-law, Betty Kvam; and her brothers-in-law, Duane Gesland, Robert Kvam and Clifford Gustavson.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
A memorial has been established in Twila's name.
