Patty was born on March 14, 1951 to Melvin and Marjorie (Shalberg) Hennings. She grew up on a farm in Crofton, NE. She graduated from Crofton High School in 1969. She then attended and graduated from Stewart's School of Hairstyling in Sioux City, IA.
She married Tim Armstrong on December 20, 1972, and they made their first home in Bloomfield, NE. Their children included Troy, Ty and Amy. She owned and operated a beauty salon in Bloomfield. In December of 1975, they moved to Ponca where she worked at Melva's Hair Fashions for 22 years. In the fall of 1998, they moved to Blair, NE. In Blair, she first worked as a teacher's aide for a year; then worked at Great Plains Communications. She loved her job and the people she worked with at Great Plains. She retired shortly after she was diagnosed with cancer.
Patty was a member of Omaha Bible Church. She loved teaching Sunday School so much that she did it for 14 years. She had a heart for teaching 3 and 4 year olds. "Miss Patty" helped hundreds of children come to know and love the Lord. Not only was she a blessing to children, but she blessed everyone she came into contact with, with her smile, hugs, compassion, and magnetic personality. She lit up a room when she walked into it.
Her hobbies included spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren, scrapbooking for her grandchildren, gardening, and canning. She was a mentor for TeamMates, a mentoring program at Blair Junior High/High School.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Tim Armstrong of Blair; son, Troy (Jill) Armstrong of Firth, NE; son, Ty (DeVonna) Armstrong of Denver, CO; daughter Amy (Reed) McGill of Ponca, NE; grandchildren, Alexa, Ben, Hannah, Christian, Gabe, Gage, Maggie, Addie, and Tucker; and very special extended family, Justin and Jamie Hamar, and their children, Blake, Brandon, Kaylee, and Kelsey.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Marjorie; brother, Rodney; and sister, Kathy.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to TeamMates of Blair, NE.
