ALLEN, Neb. - Dale Franklin Furness, 86, of Allen died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Allen with the Rev. Duane Marburger officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Bressler-Humlicek Funeral Home in Wakefield, Neb.
Mr. Furness was born Jan. 31, 1912, in Magnet, Neb., the son of Melvin and Geneva (Black) Furness. He graduated from Magnet High School and moved to California where he was employed by General Motors. He married Doris Troth Sept. 15, 1940, in Reno, Nev. They returned to Allen where they farmed until 1980, when they moved into Allen to enjoy retirement and golf.
He served as a member of the Dixon County Board of Supervisors, the Allen Town Board, and First Lutheran Church Board. He also served as president of the Allen School Board, and Chairman of the Housing Authority Board.
Survivors include his wife; a son Jim of Victoria, Texas; a granddaughter, Stacey Karlin; a great-grandson; a brother and his wife, Darrell and Angie Furness of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Wanda and her husband, George Trabalka, of Las Vegas, and Avis Alfs of Ojai, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Furness; and a sister, Mildred Beck.
