Loretta Julia (Hoops) Bangert

Posted 2013-08-06

Loretta Julia (Hoops) Bangert, 86 years old, and longtime resident of Lincoln, joined her Lord in Heaven on Friday, August 2, 2013, as a result of complications from a stroke she suffered in March. Loretta's cheerful, engaging smile and complimentary nature deeply touched those with whom she came in contact. Born to Herman and Christina Hoops on a farm near Deshler, Neb. in 1927, Loretta was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church, in Deshler. She was the fourth of five children of the Hoops family, Olinda, Wilber, Leona, Loretta, and Elmer.

Loretta graduated from Deshler High School in 1945 and was living with her parents when she met Clarence (C.P.) at a Halloween dance. She eventually moved to Lincoln to work at a local dime store, and later at Elgin Watch Company as a quality inspector. During this time, Clarence moved to Lincoln, as well. They were married in Deshler in 1949, and recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. Loretta and Clarence were blessed with four children, seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Loretta's active life in Lincoln was focused on her family, friends, and co-workers. Her servant spirit was known by so many as she always shared her love and many talents, including baking cakes for gifts and other special occasions. Friends will remember there was always a wave and smile behind the wheel of her sporty red car that she loved to drive. Loretta worked at Family Drug for several years and 37 years as hostess and cashier at "The Pantry" restaurant. No matter where she went, she would run into someone she knew. It seemed as if everyone knew Loretta and she never knew a stranger.

Loretta is survived by her loving and devoted husband, C.P.; her sister, Leona of Fairbury; daughter, Karen Carman (John) of Suffolk, Va., their children, Ben Carman of Arlington, Va., Jennifer Lovell (Conrad) of Tampa, Fla., their children - Cyrus, Daphne, Phoenix and Vaughn, and Katie Carman of Brooklyn, N.Y.; eldest son, Randy (Terri) of Lincoln; middle son, Tim of Lenexa, Kan. - his children, Ryan McElhaney of Dallas Texas, Mandy Bangert of Kansas City, Mo., and Matthew Bangert of Merriam, Kan.; youngest son, Brian and his daughter, Lauren of Wichita, Kan.; and numerous other relatives.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th St., Lincoln. The family will be present 6-8 p.m. A celebration of Loretta's life will take place at Sheridan Lutheran Church, 6955 Old Cheney Road, Lincoln, Neb. 68516, 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7. A light reception will follow at the church. Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Park, 6800 South 14th Street, in Lincoln
